Saturday, May 16th, we saw students from Edmonds College, Skagit Valley College, and the University of Washington- Bothell, come together at Edmonds College to share the community projects their groups have been working on. See the attached agenda for this event!
Edmonds College - Edmonds College Community
The Edmonds College group aimed to increase awareness of Edmonds College policies regarding ICE, provide resources to the Edmonds College community, and charter the LatinX Social Club which provides a safe space of support for LatinX students.
Skagit Valley College - YMCA
The Skagit Valley College group aimed to support the YMCA with their annual Healthy Kids Day event by creating connections, volunteering, helping with activities, and providing materials.
UW Bothell Project 1 - Environment and Community Outreach Assistant Coordinator with WSU Extension
UW Bothell student, Jacqueline Resto, focused on leading the planning, preparation, and facilitation of a full-day environmental education program for youth ages 5–18.
UW Bothell Project 2 - Data Collection
The UW Bothell group set a goal to clean and collect data provided by La Resistencia NW on the outgoing deportation flights from King County airports and create an interactive design platform using computer programs for data analysis and cleaning.
UW Bothell Project 3 - Civic Engagement
The UW Bothell group power-mapped a target within UW administration, planned a silent sit-in on campus, planned a workshop about protest poster making, and researched state and UW policies on undocumented student protections.
UW Bothell Project 4 - Latino Culture Night
The UW Bothell group hosted a Latino Culture Night event on campus celebrating different elements of Latino culture.
UW Bothell Project 5 - Youth Mentorship – Middle School
The UW Bothell group's goal was to empower middle schoolers to think confidently about their future, make safe and responsible online decisions, and develop leadership skills.
UW Bothell Project 6 - Youth Mentorship – High School
The UW Bothell group’s goal was to work with Latino high school students from El Centro de la Raza’s College Ganas program and encourage them to pursue higher education and prepare them for college.
